Juniper EX Series (hardware) lifecycle status — the real story
Juniper EX Series is the hardware under Junos OS on the campus and branch switching side: the EX2200, EX2300, EX3200, EX3300, EX4200, EX4300, EX4500, EX4550, EX4600 fixed switches, the EX6210, EX8208 and EX8216 chassis and the EX9200 line (EX9204, EX9208, EX9214, EX9251, EX9253). Cycles on this page are switch models, so it is the hardware companion to the Junos OS software page: the exploited CVEs that put Junos in CISA's KEV catalog (CVE-2023-36844 and CVE-2023-36847 are filed as Junos OS on EX Series) are software CVEs and are tracked there, but they run on these boxes. Every date comes from Juniper's own EX Series Hardware Dates and Milestones page (public, no login, a static table embedded in the page; vendor stamp Last updated 30 July 2026), re-checked at every build. That page is SKU-level; this page maps each vendor row to the model it describes, and the SKUs behind each cycle are listed in its release column. Cable, optic, power-supply, licence and support-bundle rows are deliberately not modelled.
Field mapping, identical to the Juniper SRX page: support is Juniper's Last Order date; eol is Juniper's End of Support, which Juniper's End of Life policy defines as the last date to receive maintenance support (access to technical support engineers, software releases, online tools, hardware replacement, excluding engineering support). The announcement date and, where Juniper publishes one, the End of Engineering date (the date after which Juniper is no longer committed to furnish bug fixes, maintenance releases, service releases and/or patches; newer rows) or the Same Day Support Discontinued date (older rows) are carried as supportMilestone, with the Technical Support Bulletin number where the page gives it.
The dates that matter now. Juniper announced the EX2300 end of life on April 30, 2026 (last order September 30, 2026, End of Engineering September 30, 2029, Junos 25.4 last, End of Support September 30, 2031) and the EX4300-48MP and EX4600 on June 29, 2026 (last order December 29, 2026, End of Engineering December 29, 2029, End of Support December 29, 2031). The EX4300-32F ends on March 31, 2029 and the rest of the EX4300 line (24P/24T/48P/48T, last order March 31, 2024) also on March 31, 2029. The EX9251, EX9253 and the EX9200 BASE3A chassis bundles with the first-generation EX9200 line cards end on March 31, 2027. Already past support: EX2200, EX3300, EX4200 and EX4550 on June 30, 2024; EX8208, EX8216, EX6210 and the VC1-generation EX4500 on December 31, 2022; EX3200 on August 31, 2019; the -C EX4500 models on December 31, 2018; the original EX4200-24P/48P on June 30, 2018; EX2500 on November 30, 2017; the first-generation EX4500 on January 31, 2016.
The EX3400 is named on the page only through its support bundles and carries no hardware end-of-life row, so it is listed without dates, which the EOS Edge Device feed reports as no date announced. Current models that do not appear on the EOL page at all (EX4100, EX4400, EX4650, EX4000, EX9200-15C) are not listed. Under CISA BOD 26-02 every EX model past its End of Support date is an end-of-support device regardless of the Junos release it runs.
Juniper EX Series (hardware) release and support pattern
Of the 22 release lines tracked, 13 are past end of life and 9 are still within support. The next scheduled end of life is EX9251 on March 31, 2027 — 170 days from this build. The longest-supported line currently published is EX4600, to December 29, 2031.
Computed from the tracked release data at every build — the figures above are the dates in the table, restated, not an editorial estimate.
What does Juniper EX Series (hardware) end of life mean for your organization?
When a version of Juniper EX Series (hardware) reaches end of life, the maintainers stop issuing security patches. Vulnerabilities discovered after this date are publicly disclosed on the National Vulnerability Database, exploit code appears on GitHub, and your systems remain permanently exposed.
The CVE blind spot: A CVE-based scan does not show the accumulation of unpatched vulnerabilities in EOL software. Some scanners flag unsupported versions of common products, but coverage varies, and none of them give you the date in advance. With a zero-day, nobody knows about the vulnerability. With EOL software, the vulnerability is public — listed, rated, and often weaponized — but no vendor patch is coming. This is one of the most dangerous gaps in enterprise security posture.
Organizations running EOL Juniper EX Series (hardware) should treat it as a vulnerability class in their risk register, apply compensating controls (network segmentation, enhanced monitoring, access restriction), and prioritize migration to a supported version.
Your options when Juniper EX Series (hardware) reaches end of life
There are four realistic paths. Which one is right depends far more on how long the system needs to keep running than on the version you are on today.
| Option | Best when | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Move to a supported version | The system will outlive the current version's support window and you can schedule the work | Budget for compatibility testing, not just the upgrade itself — that is where the real cost sits |
| Replace the component | The project is unmaintained, or a better-supported alternative exists | The replacement has its own lifecycle and its own end-of-life date — you are changing vendors, not escaping the problem |
| Buy extended support | Migration is genuinely underway but cannot finish before the deadline, or the workload is frozen by certification or a third-party application | A bridge, not a destination — every year purchased is a year the migration still has to happen |
| Document accepted risk | The system is isolated, short-lived, or scheduled for retirement | Only defensible with real compensating controls and a written decision — auditors treat undocumented end-of-life software as a finding |
How to choose, in one question: how many more years does this system need to run? Under a year, extended support (where it exists) is usually cheaper than an emergency migration. One to three years, migrate — support purchased repeatedly costs more than doing the project once, and the project only gets harder as the version ages. Indefinitely, migrate now and plan the next migration before it surprises you.
Worth saying plainly, because vendors selling extended support rarely will: extended support is often the more expensive choice over a multi-year horizon. It is the right answer when a deadline is genuinely unreachable, not as a default. Compare the annual fee against the one-time cost of migrating before committing to either.

Extended Support Options
If you cannot migrate immediately, extended support vendors provide continued security patches for EOL Juniper EX Series (hardware) versions. This is a bridge, not a permanent solution — plan your migration in parallel.
Juniper EX Series (hardware) has 13 versions past end of life — security patches have stopped, but CVE disclosures haven't. Extended support past the official date exists for many products in this position — whether it exists for Juniper EX Series (hardware) is exactly what we check. Tell us where to reach you and we'll reply with matched options and pricing guidance — or an honest "no vendor covers this."
